About the Korea Amour Brass Orchestra, our partners in our summer concert

The Korea Amour Orchestra was formed in 2008 by Yun Pal Kong, a conductor who had served as the military band master of the Naval Education and Training Command for 30 years. The orchestra consists of current and retired members of the Korean armed forces and police, and performs in Korea and overseas. The group has performed in Kenya, Thailand, the Phillipines, Japan, Australia, U.S. and Turkey and is continuing to visit and perform in countries that participated in the Korean War.

In Sligo, they will be commemorating Sligo people who served with the UN in the Korean War and also Irish priests who were murdered during the conflict.

“Last year marked 70 years since the signing of the armistice that brought about an end to military operations during the Korean War. However, no matter how much time passes, we are never complacent. We always acknowledge the privilege we have today because of someone else’s sacrifice yesterday. In particular, I want to recognise the contribution Sligo people made to the freedom of Korea.” Korean ambassador to Ireland in a letter to Sligo Orpheus Choir

The concert will take place on 16 June at 8pm, at the Holy Cross Friary, Sligo. Tickets are €15 each and can be purchased from Eventbrite, from choir members  or on the night (cash only on the door).
